1ST LESSON: Exodus 19:1-20

2ND LESSON: Acts 2:1-21

After arriving at Sinai, God offers to make Israel His own special treasure from among all the peoples of the earth and to make them a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.

God chose to speak to Moses in the presence of the people, so that by hearing God’s voice, they would trust Moses.

In preparation for this experience, the people must be consecrated by washing their clothes and avoiding sexual relations.

They must not come to the foot of the mountain, or touch it, or else be put to death by stoning or arrow shot.

On the third day, God descended on the mountain with smoke and fire. Moses spoke, and the voice of God answered him.

God called Moses to the top of the mountain so that he could receive the law for the people, but warned that no man should come near the mountain because the Holy God had descended on it.

On the day of Pentecost, while all the believers were meeting in a place, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them.

Everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages as the Holy Spirit gave them the ability.

Hearing the noise, everyone came running to see what was happening, including the devout Jews who had come from every part of the world for the Pentecost festival.

They were surprised to hear the believers speaking their language because the visitors were both Jews and Gentiles who had converted to Judaism.

At this, they concluded that the believers were drunk.

Then Peter stepped forward and preached to the crowd, “What you see now was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel.

In the last days, God says, “I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.”

This is the hallmark of God’s final salvation, and now everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
