1ST LESSON: Deut 14:22-29

2ND LESSON: Mark 4:26-29

Moses speaks to the new generation of Israelites on tithes, upon their arrival at the Promised Land, they must observe the annual tithing

In a yearly feast, one of the three annual feasts, the Israelites are to consume their tithes of the grain, wine, olive oil, and firstborn of herds and flock in fellowship with God; so that they may learn to honor God always.

Alternatively, they are to convert the tithes to cash if the distance is very far and then use the cash to buy meat and wine needed for the feast

They are to eat the tithe of the first and second year with family members while at the end of every three years, they are to bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it up for the Levites, strangers, widows, and fatherless.

Although the tithing principle was adopted as a Christian practice but not in the detail of Judaism

The second lesson presents one of the parables of Jesus about the Kingdom of God; the Parable of the Growing Seed

Jesus having interpreted a parable earlier had revealed that the seed sown by the farmer is the word of God and that the purpose of every seed sown is to bear fruit

Here, he sowed the seed and went his way. As time passes the growth moves from one stage to the next.

This implies that the kingdom's growth can neither be forced nor coerced. It might remain a mystery but God’s word contains its own generative power causing the kingdom to grow steadily

But in the end, those whose lives bear fruits by God’s word will be the ones to be harvested unto him at the harvest time
