1ST LESSON: Exd 23:16-22

2ND LESSON: 2 Cor 9:5-10

God spoke through Moses to the Israelites about the three annual festivals they must observe when they arrive at the Promised Land; a part of Israel’s covenant obligations given at Sinai

First, the festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Harvest to be celebrated with firstfruits, and the Festival of Ingathering to be observed at the end of the agricultural year

All Israelite males must appear before the Sovereign Lord these three times sacrificing the best portions

The blood of sacrifice must be void of anything containing yeast, fats of festival offerings must not be kept till morning and young goat must not be cooked in its mother’s milk

On their journey to the Promised Land, God’s angel (also closely identified with God himself) would prepare the way and be an enemy to their enemies if they listen to and do what he says.

In the second lesson, Paul encouraged the Corinthian church to be generous in their giving, according to their promise to support the Jerusalem church.

Meanwhile the Macedonian church had done great because of Paul’s boasting of the Corinthian church

So, Paul sent Titus with two church delegates to supervise the collections before his arrival, so that he will not be disappointed when he arrives

He gave them enough time to prepare their minds and to get the gifts ready while he reminds them that one will harvest even by proportion what he sow

Apostle Paul did not also make demands according to his apostolic authority, instead, he urged.

He further stated that giving should be cheerfully done; it should not seem like a painful loss or be done under compulsion due to some exerted pressure

Friends, whosoever gives generously will reap both the spiritual grace and material prosperity that the Lord provides
