1ST LESSON: 2 Kings 5:19-27

2ND LESSON: 2 Thessanonica. 2:1-12

The passage covers the greed of Gehazi, a servant of Elisha the prophet.

Naaman, the commander of the Syrian army, had just been healed by the God of Israel, following the injunction through the Prophet Elisha

Naaman offered gifts to the prophet, but Elisha declined

Gehazi was moved by greed when he saw the great gifts Naaman was willing to offer for his healing, so he pursued Naaman to obtain gifts for himself.

Gehazi lied to Naaman that Elisha had sent him, adding a false story to achieve his goal, and then he took the gifts to his house

On his return, he lied again to his master that he had gone nowhere. Elisha confronted him and said that his spirit had gone with him

As a consequence of his greed and lies, the leprosy of Naaman fell on Gehazi, even on his descendants

Paul wrote to the Thessalonian church to address a crisis that centers on the day of the Lord

Someone had falsely taught the church that the day of the Lord had already come, and the young church was in fear that they would not escape the wrath of God connected with the Day of Judgment

Although the saints of God will be gathered to God, the day is yet to come, asserted Apostle Paul; hence, they should not be alarmed

The day of the Lord will not come until certain things happen, “the rebellion and the man of lawlessness being revealed.”

The man of lawlessness will stand against God’s worship, set himself in God’s temple, and claim that he is God

Even the secret power of evil is already working in the world now, and those who refuse to love the truth and be saved will be further fooled by the Man of Evil
