The first lesson presents a Psalm of David, opening with a prayer for safety as he takes refuge in God.
David acknowledges Yahweh, the God of Israel as his Master from whom every good thing he has comes.
David will not worship or participate in blood sacrifice that the people offer to their idols, or even mention their names.
He praised the LORD because He has given him a wonderful share; a beautiful inheritance and has taught him well and instructed him deep inside his mind.
He is convinced that God is always with him, so close by his side that nothing can defeat him.
Therefore his heart and soul will be glad, and even his body will live in safety because God will not leave him in the place of death, or let his faithful one rot in the grave.
In the second lesson, Apostle Paul addressed the Thessalonian church concerning the deceased Christians.
The Thessalonian church was grieving over fellow believers who died before the anticipated Christ’s return.
They feared that these deceased members would miss out on Jesus’ second coming compared to believers who are still alive on the day of his return.
First, believers only sleep in death; hence the church should not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
Paul speaks for the Early Church that they believed Jesus died and rose again and that God will raise to life through Jesus any who have fallen asleep in him.
It will take this order, the Lord at his return will come down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
After which those who are alive and left will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and be with him forever.
