Ezekiel was a prophet to Judah, the southern kingdom of Israel. His ministry began seven years before Jerusalem’s fall and continued for fourteen years after the fall
God spoke through him the planned punishment for Judah’s idolatry, prophesying against the mountains, hills, ravines, and valleys of Israel
God will bring a war to them that will destroy all the places of illegitimate worship, and worshipper of idols will also be slain, with their bones littered before their idols
Yet God would allow some people to escape the coming destruction, but they will be scattered among the nations of the world as exiles
In exile, they will realize their sins, come to repentance, and recognize that Yahweh is God and that God’s threat through the prophets was never a prank
In the second lesson, Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, gave warnings from Israel’s history
Although their ancestors were all under the cloud and passed through the sea, which symbolizes baptism
They ate spiritual food and drank spiritual water that came from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, which was Christ
Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them, so they were killed in the wilderness
These things that happened to them are examples for us, to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did
As them, we should not be idolaters, we should not commit sexual immorality, we should not test Christ, and we should not grumble, because they suffered the consequences of these deeds
Paul added, “Anyone who thinks they are standing strong should be careful that they don’t fall.”
Our temptations are not new; instead, we should trust God, who will not let us be tempted more than we can bear and will also provide a way of escape
