1ST LESSON: Ezekiel 28:12-19

2ND LESSON: John 8:42-49

God gave Ezekiel a word to compose a funeral poem for the king of Tyre.

The king of Tyre was a seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

Some phrases in this passage describe a human king of Tyre, but they also describe the pride and fall of Satan on one hand, and Adam on the other.

This being was created, dwelt in the garden, was adorned with precious stones, was ordained and anointed, and had access to the mountain of God, but was later banished.

He was blameless from the day he was created, but at some point, unrighteousness and evil were found in him.

His heart grew proud because of his beauty, and the abundance of his commerce led him to violence and sin.

The judgment on Tyre represents God’s wrath against pride and arrogance, which negatively influence God’s people.

Jesus declared to the Jews that everyone who practices sin habitually is a slave of sin and not a true descendant of Abraham.

As true children of Abraham, they should follow the example of Abraham and not attempt to kill Jesus simply because they don’t have room for his teachings.

And if they are legitimate children of Abraham, they ought to recognize the identity and ministry of Jesus and love him.

Jesus explained that those who do not believe or follow his teaching are children of the devil, following his evil deeds

The devil is a murderer from the beginning; he hates the truth and influences his children, but anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to his words.

At this, the Jews retorted that Jesus is a demon-possessed Samaritan and not one of them, but Jesus sharply refuted their claims: he has no demon in him and always honors the Father, but they do not honor him.
