While Abraham settled in the Hebron neighborhood as a semi-nomadic herdsman and already had Ishmael, he yet looked forward to the son of promise.
One hot afternoon, as he sat at the entrance of his tent, he observed three men standing nearby, and he offered hospitality.
He ran to them and bowed, because he viewed them as important visitors.
This hospitality extended from washing their feet to providing a freshly prepared meal with meat and milk
And as they ate, one of them said to Abraham, “About this time next year, Sarah your wife will have a son.”
Sarah heard from the tent and laughed because she was too old to have a baby.
But God, who was practically the third of the two angels that made up the three visitors, asked; is anything too hard for the LORD?
The author of Hebrews closes with a final warning and instructions about community life.
Encouraging the believers to continue loving each other as brothers and sisters in Christ.
They are to show hospitality to strangers, just as some people, like Abraham, did and entertained angels without realizing it.
They are also to remember and share in the suffering of those in prison and those being mistreated.
Spouses should honor their marriage, valuing it as God’s design, embracing fidelity and avoiding sexual sins and adultery.
The recipients of Hebrews were strongly advised to keep their lives from the love of money and be satisfied with what they have.
Holding on to the word of God that says, “I will never leave you; I will never run away from you.” Deut. 31:6
And then they can be free to say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. People can do nothing to me.” Psalms 118:6
They are to remember their leaders, how they lived and died, and the message God gave them, and copy their faith.
