When Joseph finally revealed his identity to his brothers, and Pharaoh learned of Joseph’s family, Pharaoh invited Jacob to Egypt and promised them the best of the land.
When he heard that Joseph was still alive, Jacob’s spirit was revived, and he was excited to go see him, so he set out for Egypt.
When he reached Beersheba, he offered a sacrifice to God, and that night God spoke to him in a vision.
God told Jacob not to fear going down to Egypt because God would transform his descendants into a great nation, fulfilling his promise to Abraham.
God will go with Jacob and bring him back to rest with his ancestors, to be buried alongside Abraham and Isaac in Canaan.
So, Jacob relocated with his entire family to Egypt, with all their livestock and possessions.
In the second lesson, Peter addressed the crowd following the experience of Pentecost Day.
He spoke about Jesus being a man accredited by God to mankind, but was nailed to the cross, and God raised him from the agony of death.
Hence, the word of King David, “You will not leave my soul among the dead,” was prophetic about Jesus, because David died and was buried.
But Jesus the Messiah resurrected, and his disciples are all witnesses of it.
God, the Father, gave the promised Holy Spirit to Jesus, whom he poured out on his followers on this remarkable Pentecost day.
Most importantly, Peter announced that God had made Jesus, who was crucified, Lord and Messiah.
Peter’s words pierced the people’s hearts, and they asked, “What should we do?”
Peter replied that each of you must repent of your sin, turn to God, and be baptized; then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Peter preached for a long time that day, and 3,000 were baptized and added to the church.
