1ST LESSON: Proverbs 4:20-27

2ND LESSON: Luke 18:15-17

The fourth chapter of Proverbs presents a father’s wise advice, encouraging the sons not to swerve from the right way.

In the covered verses, the father’s instruction focuses on the anatomy of discipleship, including the ear, sight, heart, body, mouth, lips, eyes, and foot.

Implying that the whole body must be oriented towards the teachings of the father and respond beyond passive knowledge into taking the right actions.

The first point of call is to pay attention and let the words sink in deeply.

Solomon guarantees his teaching brings life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

Solomon instructs his children to guard their hearts above all else, so that they may focus on desires that keep them on the right path.

They must not bend the truth, avoid corrupt speech, keep their heads straight, eyes fixed on their goals, and keep their feet from following evil.

It was customary for a mother to bring her children to a rabbi for a blessing.

Luke records an occasion where some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could place his hands on them and bless them, but the disciples saw this as an intrusion; perhaps the children are not worthy of the Master’s time.

On the contrary, Jesus cautioned the disciples, welcomed the children into his arms, placed his hands on their heads, and blessed them.

Jesus then used the moment to preach about the kingdom of God; God’s kingdom belongs to people like little children.

We must accept the Kingdom of God as little children accept things, because they totally depend on those who care for them.

We should receive the kingdom depending not on self-righteousness but on coming to him in humble trust and complete dependence.
