God appeared to Moses and unveiled His plan to rescue the Hebrews using him to deliver them
But Moses protested, putting forth the ‘what if’ questions, “What if they won’t belief me, what if they say God never appeared to me”
Moses’ focus was on how the Israelites might respond to his extraordinary claims of encounter with God
God responded by giving him two signs, first his staff can now turn to snake, secondly his hand can turn as white as snow with a severe skin disease, which he can undo it by simply putting it back inside his cloak
These two miraculous signs should be enough to make them believe but, if need be, a third sign that turns water from the Nile to blood was also given
But Moses protested again, with the excuse of not being good with words; being a stammerer
The second lesson covers the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds
From this explanation, there are four categories of people’s response to the word of God
All the four categories have one thing in common; they all heard the message about the kingdom of God
The first category hears but don’t understand, hence the evil one snatches away the word in their heart
The second category, though received the word of God with joy but are not deeply rooted in it, hence, they fall away as soon as they have problems or being persecuted
The third category are people who hear the teaching but allows the worries about this life and love for money stop it from growing
The fourth category are people who hear the word of God, understand it, are deeply rooted in it and does not allow the worries of this life and the lure of wealth make the message unfruitful
Only this fourth category are fruitful, and this fulfills the desired result of the seed Sower
