Shortly after Joshua was installed as the leader, he sent spies to scout out Canaan, especially around Jericho.
The spies came to Jericho and lodged at the inn of a prostitute named Rahab.
The king of Jericho, on an intelligence report, sent orders to Rahab to provide the spies, but she hid them on the roof.
She denied knowing the men's identities and claimed they had already left the city.
“I know the LORD has given you this land,” said Rahab, with other testimonies as evidence that God is with Israel.
Rahab thus bargained for the safety of her family when God finally delivered Jericho to Israel and confessed that the God of Israel is the supreme God.
The men agreed to her terms, and she helped them escape through the window of her house, which was part of the city wall.
The conversation with the Samaritan woman took a different turn. As soon as she sensed Jesus was a prophet, she wanted to know about true worship.
Jesus responded that the place of worship does not matter, but who is worshipped and how He’s been worshipped.
“For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
The woman responded that the coming Messiah would explain better, and Jesus told her, “I am the Messiah.”
The woman left her water and ran back to the village, telling everyone about her short experience with Jesus, and the people came streaming to see him.
Jesus, being sensitive to the opportunity to win souls, would not even take a break to eat, for his nourishment comes from doing the will of God and finishing it.
Despite the woman’s reputation, many Samaritans in the village believed in Jesus because of her testimony.
