1ST LESSON: Deuteronomy 28:1-14

2ND LESSON: Philippians 4:1-9

At the end of the presentation of the law to the new generation of Israelites, the law presented to them the listing of blessings and curses

First, the blessings that would be if they obey and carefully keep the commands, and later the curses that would follow if they disobey

God promised blessings upon their towns, fields, children, crops, flocks, and herds, as well as fruit baskets

They will be blessed wherever they go and in whatever they do

God will establish them as a holy people, set them above all the nations of the world, and in return, all the nations will see that they are a people claimed by God

The LORD guarantees them victory when the enemies attack

God will send rain at the proper time, bless all the work they do, and make them a lender to the nations

Blessing is contingent on obedience

In the closing of Paul’s letter to God’s holy people in Philippi, he urged the brethren to stay true to the Lord, as he notes that they are his joy and the crown received for his work.

Also, Euodia and Syntyche have served so well as partners to Paul, but refused to settle a disagreement between them. Paul appealed to them on the basis that they belong to the Lord.

The believers in Philippi should rejoice always, and let people testify of them that they are considerate in their doings, bearing in mind that the Lord is coming soon.

Paul admonished them not to worry about anything, but pray about everything; telling God what they need, and appreciating all he has done.

The result of their prayer will be God’s gift of peace, a secure confidence that God is sovereign and loving.

Therefore, they should fix their thoughts on what is true, honourable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy, while putting into practice what they have learnt
