1ST LESSON: Exodus 9:13-35
2ND LESSON: Revelations 8:6-13
God dealt with Pharaoh and the Egyptians for refusing to let the children of Israel go
God through the ten plagues, exercise judgment against Egypt and demonstrates that He, not Pharaoh, is sovereign over Egypt.
The seventh plague is hail, and it came after Moses stood before Pharaoh again in an early morning to warn him
Pharaoh and his officials were advised to get their livestock and servants to shelter, but only a few adhered while others ignored the warning
Moses, at God’s instruction lifted his hands to the sky and God sent thunder and hail, and lightning and a tremendous hailstorm destroyed all that were left in the field, including people, animals, plants and trees
But Goshen, where the children of Israel lived was spared
Again, Pharaoh summoned Moses, confessed his sins and asked that the LORD ends the thunder and hail, promising to let the people go
But Pharaoh hardened his heart again as soon as the hail stopped.
The second lesson presented the sounding of the trumpets by the seven angels, initiating a cycle of divine judgment.
John saw this revelation after the Lamb of God broke the seventh seal on the scroll
Recalling the earlier plagues on Egypt, the trumpets demonstrate God’s righteous judgment on disobedience and idolatry
The first angel’s trumpet caused hail and fire mixed with blood on the earth destroying one-third of the earth
By the second angel’s trumpet, a great mountain of fire was thrown into the sea, again, affecting one-third of sea living things and sailing ships
The third trumpet introduced the star of bitterness to the rivers, and made the rivers bitter, killing many that drank from it
The fourth trumpet struck one-third of the sun, moon and stars, making one-third of the day dark, likewise the night
Yet, the final three “trumpet blast” brings intensified judgment against unrepentant humanity
