1ST LESSON: Genesis 37:16-37

2ND LESSON: Matthew 10:32-40

Joseph traveled further to Dothan as his father, Jacob, sent him to check on his brother.

Recognizing him from afar, his brothers planned to kill him because they had hated him for his dreams.

Reuben, the eldest son, was not in support of the idea; he suggested throwing him into an empty cistern while secretly planning to rescue him and return him to his father.

When Joseph arrived, they ripped off his beautiful robe and threw him into the cistern.

Soon after, Judah suggested they sell him to passing Ishmaelite traders, and Joseph was sold for twenty pieces of silver and taken to Egypt.

Meanwhile, when Reuben discovered, he was broken because he seemed to have lost the chance of redeeming himself, after the atrocity with his father’s wife.

Joseph’s brothers killed a goat, dipped his robe in its blood, and sent it to their father.

The second lesson covers sending out the twelve closest disciples on mission within Israel only.

Jesus gave them authority and power, as well as specific instructions and warnings.

Jesus affirmed that He would acknowledge before the Father in heaven those who publicly acknowledge him here on earth.

And he will also deny before His Father in heaven those who deny him here on earth.

He warned that he had not brought peace but a sword; however, this does not mean he came to start wars, but rather that some in certain families would follow him, whereas others would not, thus leading to personal hostility.

Every disciple must love the Lord most, in comparison to family ties, to be worthy of being called His.

Disciples must take up their cross and follow Jesus rather than cling to their lives.

Whoever finds their life spiritually will lose it physically, and whoever loses their life physically for the sake of Christ will find it.
