The book of Joshua tells the story of Israel following the death of Moses and the early years of Israel as a nation
After the death of Moses, God instructed Joshua, Moses’ aide thus;
“The time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them”
God gave Joshua His promise repeating Deut. 11:24; a promise of possessing the land as far as they set their foot
God also promised that no one will be able to stand against Joshua all the days of his life
But the way to this success is to be strong and very courageous, and being careful to obey all the law as received from Moses, not deviating from it
The law must be on Joshua’s lips and heart through day and night meditation, and must be sure to obey what is written there
In Corinth, the Christians were rivaling over the superiority of missionaries and teachers.
In respect to this, Paul taught that there should be no boasting about human leaders because such only reflects secular values, which is useless and foolish
Instead, they should see them as God’s servants entrusted with explaining God’s mysteries
People who have been entrusted by such responsibilities must prove to be faithful.
Paul added that he cares less about how people judge him, so long as his conscience is clear, although not claiming to be innocent.
He believed that it is the Lord who should judge, hence we should leave that to when Christ returns, for He will give to each man whatever praise is due
Paul and Apollos illustration was to guide them from being proud of one of their leaders at the expense of another.
Authentic faith is centered on Jesus
