It was in the early days of the divided kingdom of Israel.
Abijah, son of Rehoboam and grandson of Solomon, ruled in Judah over two tribes, while Jeroboam, a former official of Solomon, ruled in Samaria over ten tribes.
Rehoboam, the father of Abijah had carelessly led to the breaking away of the ten tribes and resorted to war to enforce unity, thus beginning the war between the two kingdoms.
War broke out again between Abijah and Jeroboam, but Abijah addressed the men of the ten tribes not to fight the war because they were on the wrong side.
His side is a lineage of David to whom the throne is promised forever, they observe the law of God, and worship only God.
While the side of Jeroboam has embraced idol worship, ordained any tribe as priest, and disregarded the law.
The war however, took over 500 thousand of the men of Jeroboam as the LORD helps Abijah.
In the second lesson, the church in Antioch sent Paul, Barnabas, and some local believers to the Apostles and Elders of the church in Jerusalem.
They were to resolve the imposition of Jewish law on Gentiles who are converted to Christianity, especially the requirement of circumcision as a prerequisite for salvation.
It was an intense meeting at Jerusalem too, where some believers of Pharisee root defended the need for circumcision.
On the contrary, Apostle Peter spoke concerning his experience with Cornelius and his household, who were Gentiles.
But God showed that he accepted them by pouring out the Holy Spirit on them, just as the Jewish Christians had experienced too.
Hence, placing the yoke of the law on the Gentiles implies challenging God
The Jews and Gentiles are all saved by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.
