Even after David had fled from Saul, Saul was bent on hunting him down to kill him
When David was at Horesh, Jonathan, Saul's son found out about David's hideout and visited him
Jonathan did not inform his father about this, instead, he helped David find strength by encouraging him with the assurance of God’s protection
He further assures him that Saul won’t be able to harm him, that David would become the king, while he (Jonathan) will be the second in command
And the two of them made a sacred promise of friendship to each other.
But the people of the region afterward went to Saul to disclose David’s hideout
Saul got detailed information and went after David in the wilderness of Maon
Just as Saul was about to close in on David and his men, a report came that the Philistines are invading the country, so Saul stopped the chase
And the place was called Separation Hill for they were both on either side of the hill
The second lesson presents the teachings of Jesus first about division against peace
Jesus said he came to bring fire on the earth; symbolizing God’s judgment which will come after giving his life as a ransom “the cup”
The division Jesus talks about pertains to those people rejecting the peace he offers, ushering in the great and dreadful day of the Lord
Jesus also pointed out the ability of his audience in interpreting the times and uses this interpretation of the weather to explain to his audience the need for discerning the signs of the critical time
The critical time of God’s salvation
He requested that they judge for themselves what is good. The people should resolve matters before it gets to the court
In the same manner, man should resolve with God before he meets God’s judgment
