1ST LESSON: Numbers 15:22-31

2ND LESSON: Hebrews 10:19-31

In the first lesson, God gave the Israelites the offerings for sins committed unintentionally.

Concerning all the laws that God commanded through Moses, if a sin was done by the community, unintentionally, without their awareness

The entire community is to prepare one young bull for a burnt offering as a pleasing aroma to God

This must be accompanied by a prescribed measure of grain and drink offering, and this sacrifice covers for indigenes and non-indigenes alike

They are also to present a male goat for sin offering after which the priest will make atonement for the community and they will be forgiven

Meanwhile, if it is just an individual involved in an unintentional sin, he is simply to present a year-old female goat as a sin offering

Now, if a person deliberately goes against God’s law, whether native-born or foreigner, such a person blasphemes God.

As punishment, such a person must be cut off, because he has despised God’s word and broken his commands and his sin remains on him.

Having discussed Christ’s sacrifice as once and for all, replacing the laws’ sacrifices, and that the new Covenant ultimately provides for sins, the author of Hebrews concludes, beginning verse nineteen with therefore…

Since the blood of Jesus now makes a significant difference, we should draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, with body cleansed from sin and hearts inwardly purified

Let us hold firmly to our hope, be concerned for one another, help one another to show love and to do good, and converge for fellowship

The sacrifice does not take care of sins deliberately committed after receiving the knowledge of the truth but judgment and the fierce fire await those who oppose God
