Micah prophesied to Samaria and Jerusalem during the reign of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah
Through him God declared the woes of those who planned and executed evil against others; God would reward their evil with evil
Those who covet and seize houses, lands, and people’s inheritance, God would also confiscate their land and strangers will share it after they have gone into exile
But the people asked Micah to stop such prophecies, insisting such disaster would never come to Israel
Micah continued “If you do what is right, you will find my words comforting”.
Adding that they would have loved it if a prophet prophesied plenty of wine and beer even when they had filled the land with sin, ruining it completely
Nonetheless, God would restore to him a remnant and deliver them out of the nations they were exiled
In the second lesson, Jesus warned his disciples to be careful of the yeast of the Pharisees;
They are hypocrites, claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than others
As a little yeast can permeate a large area of dough, the hypocrisy of the Pharisees can infect many
They are to be mindful of the things they say because a time is coming when words whispered in the secret will be made known to all
They should fear God and not men, for God has the power to kill and throw into the hell
Even in persecution, they should not be afraid, not only that the Spirit will teach them what to say but God will also secure them, for they are more valuable than sparrows that also enjoy God’s care
The disciples are to acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah and Savior publicly and in return, Jesus, in heaven would acknowledge them in the presence of God’s angels
Anyone who denies the work of the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven
