JUDGMENT AND SALVATION

LESSON SUMMARY IN 300 WORDS

230TH EDITION, SEPTEMBER29TH, 2024

1ST LESSON: Lament. 5:1-22

2ND LESSON: 1 Thess. 5:1-11

The first lesson describes the condition of the people left in Jerusalem after it was conquered by Babylonians and its citizens deported

Their terrible situation, deep shame, and grief were expressed in this poem whose authorship is ascribed to Jeremiah.

Chapter five opens and closes with a prayer to God for restoration, recognizing His sovereignty.

These residents acknowledged sin as the root of their situation, they have sinned and so also have their ancestors

“Things have gone bad for us because we sinned”

Consequently, their inheritance has been turned over to strangers, even common water and wood come with a price, while they risk their lives to get food.

The Babylonians violated their women, hung their princes, ended the significant position of the elders, as well as the making of music by the youths

They plead, “Make our lives as they were before.”

In the second lesson, Apostle Paul addressed the fate of living Christians about the end time events.

The Thessalonian Christians were curious about the timing of Christ’s return and what would happen to them when the day comes.

Regarding the day and time, Paul said the unbelievers would be caught unaware but not so for believers because they belong to the light.

Hence, they should not be like other people sleeping, but rather be awake and exercise self-control.

They were encouraged to wear as a breastplate, faith, and love to protect them while putting on the hope of salvation as their helmet.

Believers would not suffer God’s wrath when the day of the Lord’s return comes, for God chose them to have salvation through Christ and it is not important if we are alive or dead when Jesus comes.

Therefore they should encourage and help each other to grow stronger in faith.
