WISE DECISION FOR LIVING

LESSON SUMMARY IN 300 WORDS

227TH EDITION, SEPTEMBER8TH, 2024

1ST LESSON: Eccl. 11:1-8

2ND LESSON: Matt. 13:36-43

This phrase “cast thy bread upon the waters” may have meant several things to the immediate recipients such as being a generous giver, considering multiple business investments as a form of diversification, or even engaging in maritime trade

Solomon mentioned some practical principles; a full cloud will produce rain, a tree abide where it falls, farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant, hence never harvest

Solomon also identifies certain mysteries; realities that are beyond man’s effort, which may however require man’s initial attempt to yield a result

A quest to understand God’s part of some mysteries may be unnecessary, like the path of the wind, the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, and so on

God would always work out his part

And man should diligently sow his seed, and invest in more than one business because of unexpected disaster

The second lesson presents Jesus’ explanation of the Parable of the Wheat and Weeds

The Kingdom of Heaven was likened to a farmer who planted good seed on his field, but while everyone was sleeping his enemy sowed weeds among the wheat.

The farmer instructed that separation should be withheld till harvest

Jesus said the Son of Man is the farmer, the field is the world, the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom and the weeds are the people who belong to the evil one

The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the devil, the harvest is the end of the world and the harvesters are the angels

And as the grain is sorted out and burned in the fire, and so it will be at the end of the world

There will be gnashing of teeth for those who did evil but the righteous will shine in their Father’s Kingdom
