1ST LESSON: Isaiah 1:16-20

2ND LESSON: 1Timothy 6:3-16

In the first chapter of the book of Isaiah, God confronts Israel with national rebellion and offers a proper remedy for Israel’s battered condition which is genuine repentance

Repentance means turning away from sinful behavior and turning toward obedience; it involves taking deliberate steps on the part of the Israelites

Israel should wash and be clean, stop evil and wrongdoings

Israel should learn to do good; treat people fairly, speak for the widows and orphans, argue their cases for them in court, and punish those who hurt others, for this would show the sincerity of their repentance

As God invites his people to settle the matter, he assures a transformational cleansing, from red-stained to white as snow

Now, depending on their response, the obedient will eat the good things of the land while the sword will eat those who rebel

In the second lesson, Paul draws the attention of false teachers and their effects on the church

These false teachers were known for arguments and quarrel about words, which further led to jealousy, disputes, insults, evil suspicions, and so on

They even say that godliness or devotion to God is a way to become rich.

In Paul’s defense, if only godliness is accompanied by contentment; satisfaction with what he has.

Since we would not take anything out of this world when we die, then, if we have our basic needs we should be satisfied because a strong desire to get rich may lure people away from God, leading to destruction

The people eager for money have wandered from the faith, and pierced themselves with many grieves, for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil

Timothy was advised to flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.
