Priest Eli was the High Priest and Judge over Israel after the death of Samson.
As the Lord spoke to Eli through an unnamed prophet, Eli was culpable for the impoverished priesthood at Shiloh.
In his days, Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the Lord.
The priests, through their servants, practice extortion by taking quality meat from the Israelites who sacrifice at Shiloh as against Leviticus 7:28-36
They violently take the fat portion of the sacrifice even before the fat that belongs to God is burnt on the altar.
Hophni and Phinehas also took advantage of their position by having sexual relations with women who served at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
God responded by reversing his promise to the family line as priests forever but be replaced because they no longer honor God.
No one in the family line will reach old age because they will die in the prime of life, and their remnant will be poor beggars.
In the second lesson, Paul asked the Ephesians to imitate God and live a life filled with love following the examples of Christ.
They should desist from sexual immorality, impurity, greed, evil and foolish talk, or coarse joking because they are improper for God’s holy people.
God has punished people for this in the past, so don’t be deceived.
People who are immoral, impure, greedy, and idolaters have no inheritance in the kingdom of God.
Believers are children of light; hence, they should always find out and do what pleases the Lord and expose evil deeds.
Make the most of every opportunity by doing good because these are evil times.
“so don’t be foolish with your lives, but learn what the Lord wants you to do.” Understand and apply the knowledge.
