PROPHECY OF SALVATION FULFILLED

LESSON SUMMARY IN 300 WORDS

191TH EDITION, DECEMBER24TH, 2023

1ST LESSON:Isaiah 9: 1-7

2ND LESSON:Luke 1:67-80

At a time when God revealed the invasion of the Assyrian king and the distress to come, God also spoke through Isaiah of hope in the Messiah.

In the future, Galilee of the Gentiles will be filled with glory, for the people who walk in darkness will see a great light.

God will enlarge Israel, lift their heavy burden, and break the oppressor’s rod and the people will rejoice greatly.

Surprisingly, the deliverer is a child; a child in God’s hands is more powerful than the powerful nations of this world.

Though the child is a descendant of David, He would rule with Justice and righteousness.

His throne names Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace represent the totality of His royal power.

In the second lesson, a priest, Zechariah, prophesied about the Messiah, most probably the last prophecy before the birth of Jesus.

Zechariah began by praising God for faithfully keeping His promises to David.

It fulfills God's coming to his people to redeem and rescue them from their enemies, show mercy to their ancestors, and remember His holy covenant.

Zechariah's choice of word affirms the salvation that enables the people to serve God without fear, in holiness and righteousness for as long as we live, as sworn on oath to Abraham.

And as for John the son of Zechariah, he will be called a prophet of the Most High God and will go first before the Lord to prepare the way for him.

Jesus is John’s superior because he is “the Son of the Most High” while John is “a prophet of the Most High”

John will make his people understand that they will be saved by having their sins forgiven.
