The fourth chapter of Genesis introduces the consequences of the fall of man. "Man" fell and the acts of wickedness began to multiply.
Adam and Eve bore Cain and Abel. Cain worked the soil, and Abel kept the flocks.
Over time, Cain and Abel brought offerings to the Lord
Abel’s offering was described as a fat portion, and the firstborn but Cain’s offering was not described.
In the order of acceptance, Abel as a person was accepted first, then his offering, likewise, God did not accept Cain as a person, hence his offering
God, however, cautioned Cain and advised him to do what was right with his life, and then he would be acceptable, else sin would overtake him
Unfortunately, Cain allowed sin to rule over him. He lured his brother to the field and killed him, and by this act, evil continued to multiply
The church in Macedonia had done great because Paul had boasted to them about the generosity of the Corinthian church, now the Corinthian church must brace up and not disappoint Paul
Paul urged the Corinthian church to finish the arrangements of the promised generous gift in support of the Jerusalem church who had that time was in need.
He reminded them of this principle “The proportion of seed sown determines the harvest”
He explained further that giving should be cheerfully done; it should not seem like a painful loss or be done under compulsion, and that God loves cheerful givers
And that God can give them more blessings than they need, having plenty of everything, enough to share with others
Paul also quoted Psalms 112:9, “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”
