After Yahweh proved himself as God over Baal at Mount Carmel, Elijah put to the sword about hundreds of prophets of Baal and Asherah who were supporters of Jezebel.
When Ahab, who saw all, reported to his wife, Jezebel, she sent a threatening message to Elijah that she would take his life within the next 24 hours.
Elijah was afraid and fled to Beersheba and then towards the wilderness, where he was weary and slept under a tree.
There, an angel of the Lord woke him and instructed him to a provision of bread and water, which would last him for a 40-day and night journey to Horeb.
At Horeb, Elijah complained that he was the only prophet of the Lord left in Israel, and when they wanted to take his life, they had rejected the covenant of God and torn down His altars.
After a violent introduction, God spoke to Elijah in a still small voice. Instructed the anointing of key persons and corrected his notion of the only prophet of God left in Israel
James, in his teaching, established that we have become God’s prized possession now that we have experienced regeneration through the message of the gospel.
He further admonished that we are to put the word into practice
We must be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry because human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires
We must get rid of filth and evil in our lives, humbly accept the word of God that has been planted in our hearts, because the word has the power to save our souls
We must not deceive ourselves that we are destined for final salvation when we only listen to the word of God without obeying it
We must not forget what the word says; we must do it, then God will bless us
We must learn to control our tongue and take care of the less privileged
