This passage presents the song of Moses just before he was going to die on Mount Nebo
This song, giving by God and written down by Moses looks back at Israel’s history following their rise, fall and revival in relation to God’s divine parenting
God as reaffirms character of strength, permanence, faithfulness, and justice
But God’s people have acted perversely, corruptly and unfaithfully toward him, they have not acted like his true children
God directed them to enquire from their fathers and the elders, the wonderful deeds of God and his relationship with Israel
God intentionally separated humanity and established boundaries between peoples.
The LORD chose Israel to be his own people and Jacob he chose as his inheritance
The second lesson covers Paul’s third missionary journey and his farewell address to the Ephesian church elders
Paul reaffirmed that though he has served among them with humility, tears and trials, he has not shrunk from proclaiming what is profitable and teaching the truth
He has also preached repentance to both Jews and Greeks but now had to face the uncertainties of his trip to Jerusalem
Paul had been warned that chains and afflictions await him in Jerusalem, but he has counted his life as no value to himself so that he might finish the course of his ministry
Since he was not sure to see them again, he urged the elders to be shepherds of the church of God, keeping watch of themselves first and over the church they oversee
He warned that savage wolves would come after he leaves, even arising from their local assembly, promoting deviant doctrines to lure people into following them
Paul entrusts them to God and His word, which can strengthen and grant them an inheritance with the sanctified.
